The Center for Pediatric Rehabilitation and Pediatric Medicine

The goal of the Center for Pediatric Rehabilitation and Pediatric Medicine is to treat, assist and encourage children with severe orthopaedic and neurological conditions to reach their highest functional capacity - specifically their motor, intellectual and social skills. This major division of the Center for Children evaluates patients for their individual needs relating to equipment, bracing, physical and occupational therapy, psychological and speech therapy. Components of this center include Genetics, the Center for Growth, the Center for Pediatric Bone Health Growth.

Originally a program at the Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine, Outpatient Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine Services moved to the Hospital for Joint Diseases in July 2000 and became one of the Center for Children’s four major clinical units.

Rehabilitation services and pediatric medicine are available to patients with:

• Traumatic Brain Injury
• Sensory Integration Dysfunction
• Spasticity
• Post-infectious Neurologic Conditions

• Orthopaedic Conditions
• Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis and Allied Conditions
• Muscular Dystrophy

Different types of treatment modalities are offered. These include:

• Physical and occupational therapy
• Speech therapy
• Botox injections
• Aquatherapy
• Therapeutic electrical stimulation
