The NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases Pediatric Physical and Occupational Therapy Department services children from birth to 18 years of age with a wide range of orthopaedic, neuromuscular, congenital and rheumatic conditions. The department prides itself on its multidisciplinary team approach. The Physical and Occupational therapists are part of an integrated medical team which includes the patient/family, child life therapists, a geneticist and genetic counselor, a neurologist and neurosurgeon, a nurse/nurse practitioner, orthopaedists, an orthotist, pediatrician, physician assistant, psychologist, physiatrist, research coordinator, and social worker. Comprehensive care is accomplished through direct contact with all team members, consultation at weekly clinics and participation in monthly medical conferences.

Physical and Occupational Therapy is provided on both an Inpatient and Outpatient basis, allowing for continuity of care of patients treated in both settings.
The Pediatric PT/OT Department consists of a newly renovated state-of-the-art Gross Motor Room, Adolescent Orthopaedic Gym, Sensory Integration Room, One-on-One Infant and Quiet Room, Splinting and Casting Room, Assistive Technology Room, Aquatic Therapy Pool, and Equipment and Mobility Room.
We treat the whole child, and encourage children to reach their highest level of functional capacity in all areas including their motor, intellectual and social skills. This goal is facilitated by our highly trained pediatric physical and occupational therapists through the use of cutting edge treatment techniques and state-of-the-art equipment.
